Dr Chris Pritchard - Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Area

Having completed my trilogy on the elementary mathematics of area, A Square Peg in a Round HoleThe Room in the Elephant and Pack up a Penguin, I will review some of the ideas and methods that do not typically appear in textbooks but which would support the learning and teaching of area and of mathematics through area. And on the way I’ll highlight some unexpected results.

Chris is the current President of the Mathematical Association and former Chair of the Scottish Mathematical Council. He taught for 39 years in schools in London and Scotland much of the time as Head of Department, and he has been one of the editors of Mathematics in School since 2005.
