Librarian Needed

Librarian Wanted:

Do you have a passion for historical mathematical texts and the history of our subject? Do you enjoy encouraging and enthusing others in your passion?

Following the recent retirement of our MA Librarian we are seeking a new volunteer to help us to develop the collection and make it more accessible to our members.

Our library and special collections are housed in the University of Leicester’s David Wilson Library.

The collection comprises over 11,000 books and 400 runs of periodicals from many different countries. The collection covers mathematics, its teaching, history, and popularisation, and is particularly rich in its coverage of school and university mathematics textbooks of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

With the full support of the HQ team the MA Librarian will lead a small group of dedicated volunteers plus representatives from the University of Leicester to address the following key challenges;

  1. To develop an access and engagement plan, covering:
  • Promotion of the library to MA members
  • Internal / external promotion to other potential audience groups
  • Education and research opportunities for the collection, e.g. through development of teaching resources based around historic maths textbooks, exercise books etc.

  1. To develop a strategy for the evolution and expansion of the collection.

If this is something you think you could help us with and would like to discuss further, we would be very keen to hear from you.  The ability to attend the library in Leicester from time to time would be beneficial for this role.

Please email in the first instance to register your interest, describing what experience you could bring to the role.

This vacancy will remain open until the end of September.
