The Association of Mathematics Education Teachers (AMET), the Association of Teachers of Mathematics (ATM), The Mathematical Association (MA), the National Association of Mathematics Advisers (NAMA) and the National Association for Numeracy and Mathematics in Colleges (NANAMIC) are excited to announce the successful outcome of the recent vote regarding their proposed merger to create a new, shared home for everyone involved in mathematics education: AMiE (Association for Mathematics in Education).
With an overwhelming majority (over 90%) of members in favour across the associations, this vote marks a significant milestone for the mathematics community and reaffirms each association’s ongoing commitment to advancing the field of mathematics education.
AMiE will bring together a broader network of dedicated people, resources, and expertise, to advocate for and improve the teaching and learning of mathematics. The merger brings together the key respected organisations from across the sector and will open up new opportunities for collaboration and impact.
In the coming months, the associations will work closely as they integrate and finalise the transition, with plans to publicly launch AMiE in late 2025.
"For as long as I've been involved in the world of mathematics education there have been conversations about the possible merger of the various mathematics subject associations, and so it is with much excitement that this day has finally come. I am confident that the combined efforts, interests, experience and skills of our various associations will together, in AMiE, enable us to better support the current members of The Mathematical Association, and the wider mathematics education community" - Dr Andy Kemp, Chair of The Mathematical Association
Regular updates will be shared throughout the process including details on how individuals can engage with and contribute to the new AMiE community.
