We are pleased to announce that Dr Peter Rowlett is the new Editor of The Mathematical Gazette, taking over from Dr Gerry Leversha. Gerry has overseen The Mathematical Gazette as Editor since 2002 and has recently been awarded Honorary Membership of The Mathematical Association in recognition for his outstanding contributions to mathematics over the years.
Peter works as a mathematics lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, where he teaches proof and introductory pure mathematics (logic, sets, group theory), game theory, combinatorics, mathematical modelling, programming, and the role of maths in history and society. His research is focused on educational practice in higher education, and he is active in enrichment with experience delivering sessions for years 4-13 in England. He has worked as a journal editor, editorial board member, and peer reviewer. He currently serves on committees for the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences, the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, and the Observatory for Mathematics Education, as well as being a member of the steering group of the MathsJam recreational maths network.
Peter said: "The Mathematical Gazette plays an important role and has a long history of supporting the MA's mission and the mathematics teaching profession, and it is a huge honour to be invited to be its next editor. I look forward to publishing articles which inform and encourage the interests of mathematics teachers and that are useful for teaching practice and enriching the curriculum."
