Subcommittee

Aims

The Post-16 Subcommittee (Subcommittee 129) of Teaching Committee addresses issues in post-16 mathematics education and produces resources to support classroom practices. They will deliver a session at the MA Annual Conference to share and showcase these resources - in 2012, the session will be entitled ‘Meet the Hookers’, sharing their current work on visual images (Hooks) which are designed to engage students interest and promote discussion. We also aim to review and refresh the ‘Read any good Maths Books?’ list every term.

The subcommittee was established on 29 September 2001; it replaced the A and AS Mathematics Subcommittee and the Maths in Further, Tertiary and Continuing Education Subcommittee. On 19 May 2007 the subcommittee absorbed the Teaching and Learning Undergraduate Mathematics Subcommittee.

In 2010 The Mathematical Association and the National Association for Numeracy and Mathematics in Colleges established the Post-16 Group through which they are working together to support post-16 mathematics education by the provision of professional development and resources. On policy issues the two associations will continue to act independently and through the already existing channels for shared action. The MA’s Post-16 Subcommittee now consists of its representatives on the Post-16 Group’s Steering Group.
